General introduction
Every year, on the third Saturday in September, Europe’s largest international underwaterhockey tournament is being held in Breda. The International Argonauta Tournament has become a regular tournament for the best teams and players in the world to compete against each other. Among them are English, French, Spanish, Belgian, Turkish, Portuguese, New Zealand, and Colombian, Argentinian and American teams, that have all participated in the tournament.
The tournament is divided in three leagues: top, sub top and ladies. Two fields were games are played, an average of 240 participants and a smashing party to finish a day of top hockey!
Venue address: Terheijdenseweg 494, 4826 AB Breda
Tournament committee
We turn to the best to get this train on track. From those who are involved in underwaterhockey within Argonauta, we try to select a small group who will take initiative and start to build up the solid foundation.
From there we go big immediately! Every person within and surrounding Argonauta that is capable is contacted for their specific expertise. This can vary from prepping goals, inviting teams, organizing volunteers, setting up websites, rounding up sponsors and fixing us those beautiful under water camera’s and images!
In the final stage we ask all our volunteers to put their money where their mouth is, and help us build the tournament. Think of barriers, clocks, game tables, tents, testing beer and prepping for a party! These volunteers are our greatest asset and we thank them for all the effort they put into the tournament every year!
The way it works
As team or player
When you arrive at the pool, from 10 o’clock you can subscribe at the desk we’ve set up at the entry of the pool. There you receive additional info you might not have read on this web page. You will receive a bag; containing: the tournament booklet, a camera and maybe some more materials needed. In the booklet you can find the schedule, our sponsors, the rules that differentiate from the ‘normal’ rules and all kind of other useful information.
Then you go to the dressing rooms, change, and find your way to the stands were all teams are to locate themselves. Keeping a clear space for visitors. You play hockey, meet friends, make new friends, enjoy the tournament and just let it all come to you.
As visitor or fan
When you arrive at the pool (any time you want) you pass the entry and will see stairs at your left hand side. You make your way up and will see the clear space on the stands where you can see the games on TV screens, read about underwaterhockey and it’s basics and ask questions to the players surrounding you.
After seeing all of it, you can have a drink and might be interested in the party. For that, contact one of the committee members, wearing a t-shirt with this years logo and the sign ‘crew’. He or she will help you. But most of all: enjoy!
